
Introduction
The 2nd International Classics Conference in Ghana (ICCG) was a significant academic event The Classical Association of Ghana organised from December 6 to 9, 2022. The conference theme “Global Classics and Africa” aimed to explore the intersection between classical studies and African perspectives, fostering discussions on the evolution of humanity and its relevance in the context of posthumanism.
Venue
The conference occurred at the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation Research (CBCR) and the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana. The University’s Department of Philosophy and Classics hosted the event.
Financial Support
The success of the 2nd ICCG was made possible through the generous financial support of prominent organizations, including the Loeb Classical Library Foundation, the Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies, and the Society for Classical Studies.
Conference Programme
The event kicked off on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, with the Arrival and Registration session held at the Classics Section, Department of Philosophy & Classics, University of Ghana. The subsequent days included a rich program of academic sessions, keynote speeches, and opportunities for networking.
Opening Session - December 7, 2022
The opening session at the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation Research (CBCR) began with a warm welcome to all participants. The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Professor Wazi Apoh, the Dean of the School of Arts at the University of Ghana. Mr. Daniel Ocansey, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy & Classics was the Master of ceremony.

Welcome Addresses
Professor Peter Kojo T. Grant, Acting President of the Classical Association of Ghana and Head of Classics & Philosophy at the University of Cape Coast delivered the welcome address. He was joined by Professor Mohammed Majeed, Head of the Department of Philosophy & Classics at the University of Ghana.
Special Guest of Honour
Mrs. Gifty Etornam Katahena, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy & Classics, introduced the Special Guest of Honour, Rt. Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, who holds the position of 1st Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana and is an alumnus of Classics.

Keynote Address by Professor Folake Onayemi
Professor Folake Onayemi, from the University of Ibadan, presented the keynote address and delivered a thought-provoking speech on “Classics, Humanity, and Posthumanism.” The address examined the historical background of classical humanism and its relevance in understanding human identity and values. Moreover, Prof. Onayemi explored the critical challenges posed by the concept of posthumanism and emphasized how classical humanism could adapt and redefine itself through these challenges.

Conclusion
The 2nd International Classics Conference in Ghana proved to be a resounding success, providing a platform for scholars, researchers, and students to engage in stimulating discussions on global classics and their connection to Africa. The event’s hybrid format allowed for both in-person and virtual participation, enabling a wider and more diverse audience to be part of the academic discourse.
