Brief History
The departments of Philosophy and Classics were both created in 1948 as foundation units of the Faculty of Arts in what was then the University College of the Gold Coast. In 2010 these units merged into a Department of Philosophy and Classics.

At the graduate level, the two sections run separate programmes. Currently, the Classics section runs BA, MA, MPhil and PhD programmes, while the Philosophy section runs BA, MPhil and PhD programmes.
