Food Science

The discipline that applies engineering, biological and physical sciences to study the nature of foods, the causes of deterioration, food processing and improvement of foods for the consuming public.


Nutrition is the science that deals with all the various components of food and how the body receives and uses the food components for proper growth and maintenance of good health.


To teach, research, and provide extension services in Nutrition and Food Science issues.

The Department’s vision is in two-fold: (1) To be a sustainable centre of excellence in teaching, research and extension in the disciplines of Nutrition and Food Science consistently developing programmes for teaching research that meet national needs and are competitive to global standards and (2) To consistently develop programmes and extension services that enhance food and nutrition security, while consulting for both governmental and non-governmental organisations.
