Prof. Peter Quartey Examines Debt, Investment and Growth in Ghana as He Delivers Inaugural Lecture at GAAS

Professor Peter Quartey, Professor of Economics and Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana, has delivered his inaugural lecture at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS).
The lecture, which took place at the GAAS Kwame Nkrumah Auditorium, drew a large audience including scholars, students, family, friends, journalists and members of the public.
In his presentation, Prof. Quartey highlighted the relationship between public debt, investment, and economic growth in Ghana, shedding light on worrying trends in the country’s fiscal management.
He noted that Ghana has increasingly allocated borrowed funds toward recurrent expenditure and interest payments rather than productive investments.
