Telecel Ghana Commissions 43-Unit ICT Lab at University of Ghana

Telecel Ghana has reinforced its longstanding partnership with the University of Ghana by handing over a fully equipped 43-unit computer laboratory, complete with an 86-inch interactive touchscreen, dedicated internet connectivity and air conditioning.

The initiative, delivered as part of Telecel's Corporate Social Responsibility (CS) programme, is aimed at enhancing digital learning, research and innovation for students.

Patricia Obo-Nai, noted that the new laboratory would provide students with opportunities to learn, collaborate, innovate and develop solutions to real-world challenges, adding that the greatest value of the investment would be reflected in the lives transformed through its use. She further urged students and all individuals who will have access to the laboratory to take proper care of the computers and the facility.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon Awandare, described the donation as a significant contribution to the University's efforts to improve the student experience through technology. He said the ICT laboratory complements ongoing initiatives, including classroom modernisation, hotspot comfort zones across campus and the One Student One Laptop (1S1L) project, all aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.

Prof. Awandare expressed the University's appreciation to Telecel Ghana for the gesture, noting that the donation reflects the strong relationship between the two institutions and their shared commitment to educational development.

Director of the Information Technology Directorate (ITD), Ing. Francis Boachie, recounted the long-standing collaboration between the University and Telecel Ghana, which dates back to 2010. He commended the company's continued support for the University and expressed optimism that the partnership would yield even greater benefits for students and staff in the years ahead.

Also addressing the gathering, Acting Director of Enterprise Business at Telecel Ghana, Mr. Nii Laate Lartey, disclosed that currently, Telecel provides a dedicated high-bandwidth internet connection and multiple leased lines serving the University's campuses nationwide, while more than 36,000 students benefit from the company's tertiary data bundle packages.

The ceremony concluded with a tour of the new ICT laboratory, where University officials, Telecel executives and student leaders inspected the facility.
