Three UG Students Receive Eric Danquah Foundation Scholarship Awards to Support Academic Studies
Three students of the University of Ghana have been awarded scholarships under the Eric Danquah Foundation in recognition of their academic excellence and to support their academic pursuits.
The awards, presented through the Foundation, aim to support outstanding students while promoting excellence in education and leadership development. The beneficiaries were selected based on merit and their commitment to making meaningful contributions in their respective fields.
The three beneficiaries, Mr. Paul Tetteh Laryea, Mr. Emmanuel Bobbie and Mr. Lewis Tetteh Kusi who are pursuing Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a specialisation in Crop Science were awarded scholarships to cover their tuition and accommodation fees for the 2025/2026 academic year.
During the presentation of the awards, Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah noted that the EDF scholarship aims to nurture the next generation of Plant Scientists. He added that, beyond financial support, the students will receive mentorship and guidance to support their academic development and prepare them for impactful careers in Agricultural Science.
The initiative forms part of EDF’s broader commitment to strengthening capacity in agricultural science and supporting future leaders in Plant Breeding and Genetics.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Mr. Emmanuel Bobbie expressed appreciation to the Foundation, describing the scholarship as a significant milestone in their academic journey. He added that the support is meaningful and will motivate them to continue striving for excellence in studies.
The three students are the fourth cohort of beneficiaries under the EDF Exceptional Excellence Scholarship Scheme. In total, twelve (12) University of Ghana students have benefited from the Eric Danquah Foundation since its inception in 2020.

The Eric Danquah Foundation was established by Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, Founding Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) after he received the prestigious GCHERA World Agriculture Prize on October 28, 2018.
Through its main initiative, The High-flyers in Plant Breeding & Genetics Programme, the Foundation aims to nurture a new generation of skilled Agricultural Scientists who will drive innovation and research excellence across Africa, ultimately contributing to the continent’s sustainable development.
