First Bank Ghana sponsored Hotspot Comfort Zone Commissioned

The First Bank Ghana sponsored Hotspot Comfort Zone has been commissioned and handed over to the University of Ghana in a colourful ceremony held on Friday 21st November 2025.

The facility, located near the Athletics Oval and adjacent the one sponsored by the University of Ghana Alumni Association, will provide students with comfortable seating, high-speed WIFI connectivity, modern washroom facilities, air-conditioned spaces and on-site banking services including an ATM and an instant ATM card vending machine.

Speaking at the event, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon Awandare, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, described the facility as a perfect fulfilment of two key strategic objectives of the university, which are delivering a transformative student experience and deepening engagement with strategic partners.

"We are the first university in Ghana, and our responsibility is not to compete with others but to continue giving our students the real value of the brand," Prof.  Awandare said. He highlighted the ongoing initiatives under the Vice-Chancellor's vision, including the ‘One Student One Laptop’ initiative, of which 350 laptops have already been distributed, classroom modernisation with audio-visual equipment, and construction of hotspot comfort zones to give non-resident students a conducive place to study, interact and relax between lectures.

Prof. Awandare praised First Bank Ghana for being the first corporate institution to respond to the University’s call for support to construct a hotspot comfort zone.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank Nigeria and Subsidiaries, Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu, said the bank views such interventions as investments in Africa's future.

"This Hotspot Comfort Zone is more than a building; it is a commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders" he stated. He urged students to use the facility responsibly, maintain it with pride and leverage the digital tools provided to excel.
