TEWU UG Chapter Honours Long Serving Staff

The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) UG Chapter has introduced a novel initiative to honour long-serving staff, starting with the presentation of brand-new flat screen television sets to retirees with 40 years or more of service.

At a brief ceremony, held recently, 20 retirees received the first batch of televisions. The scheme, fully funded by TEWU-UG, is expected to benefit over 2,000 staff as they retire.

“This initiative recognises staff who have shown commitment, contribution and loyalty to the University and the Union,” said TEWU-UG Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Nkumsah. He added that the effort aligns with the University’s strategic priority on commitment to faculty and staff and revealed ongoing discussions with manufacturers to provide additional welfare benefits.

“The presentation is outstanding. What TEWU has done today has no precedent,” said Mr. Joseph Tinkorang, a retiree with over 40 years of service. Other beneficiaries, including Mr. Sumaila Issah and Mr. Eric Opoku, praised the initiative and encouraged the Union to extend recognition to staff with 25 years of service and above.
