Dr. Monica Mensah Danquah Elected to Lead Strategic Advancement of Library and Information Services in Sub-Saharan Africa

Dr. Monica Mensah Danquah, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information Studies and Hall Tutor at Legon Hall, University of Ghana, has been elected as Chair of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Division Committee for the 2025–2027 term.

Her election follows a competitive selection process involving IFLA members across the Sub-Saharan African region and reflects growing recognition of her leadership in library and information services. As Chair, Dr. Danquah will coordinate regional activities that promote equitable access to information and knowledge, strengthen library institutions and support inclusive development through knowledge-based initiatives.

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading global body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. Through its Regional Divisions, including Sub-Saharan Africa, IFLA supports the professional development of librarians, advocates for access to information as a human right, and provides a platform for shaping global library policies.

Dr. Danquah’s work focuses on knowledge management, library development and information literacy. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the same IFLA Regional Division, Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Library Journal and Public Relations Officer of the Library Education and Training Institutions Section (LETIS) under the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA). She has contributed to various capacity-building initiatives across the continent and is known for championing innovation in library services and higher education.

Reacting to the election, Dr. Danquah described the appointment as a significant opportunity to enhance the University’s global presence. “This role will not only elevate our institutional visibility but also strengthen collaboration and thought leadership in the library and information sector across Africa,” she stated.
