‘Your acceptance of this responsibility reflects a profound commitment to the advancement of higher education in Ghana in general and in particular to the enduring legacy of the University of Ghana,’ the Chancellor noted.

‘As Chair, you will be called upon to provide strategic direction, uphold the core values of this institution and serve as a bridge between academia, government and society,’ she added.

The Chancellor concluded by urging all members of the reconstituted Council to be guided by the University's vision to achieve global impact through innovative research, teaching and learning, utilising a technology-driven and people-centered approach.
‘As Council members, your role is pivotal in steering the University towards meeting its strategic objectives, and I trust that you will bring your diverse expertise and valuable insights to bear as you work on shaping policies and decisions that align with our mission to create an enabling environment that makes the University of Ghana increasingly relevant to national and global development,’ Mrs. Chinery-Hesse concluded.
Chairperson of Council, Madam Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, and her leadership team for formulating a bold Strategic Plan (2024–2029), which she described as a timely roadmap. She remarked, “This orientation has been deliberately structured to provide us with the necessary tools to govern with wisdom, to deliberate with clarity and to act with courage.”

She acknowledged the recent challenges the higher education landscape is navigating including ‘constrained public resources, rapid technological transformation, growing global competition and the ever-pressing expectation students, parents, employers, policymakers and society.’
That notwithstanding, Madam Brew was quick to add that ‘the challenges are real, but so too is the opportunity to leave a meaningful, lasting imprint on the future of this university.’
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Amfo welcomed the new Council members and called for their collective support in advancing the University’s overarching vision.
She emphasised the University’s role as a vital national asset and highlighted the importance of strong, effective governance in realising its aspirations.

The full-day orientation featured presentations on the University’s governance structure, strategic direction, financial management systems and standard operating procedures.
