VC Speaks at Association of Women Accountants, Ghana (AWAG) Anniversary Launch

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo joined the Association of Women Accountants, Ghana (AWAG), to launch 30 years of "balancing accounts." The event, which took place at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, was under the theme, "30 Years of Balancing, the Way Forward for Career Women in the 21st Century.’’

Prof. Amfo in her remarks to launch the celebration, congratulated members for their contribution towards the accountancy profession in Ghana and noted how AWAG's vision directly aligns with the global vision for women empowerment.

She emphasised the importance of embracing strengths, leveraging technology, fostering collaboration, continuous learning, prioritizing well-being and fulfillment in navigating the complexities of the modern era.

Prof. Amfo outlined five key points for women Accountants to consider in their careers: overcoming systemic barriers, harnessing technology, continuous learning, maintaining work-life balance and supporting each other.

She also urged AWAG to continue its mentoring programs to attract young women to the accountancy profession.

The Chairman for the occasion, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, in the closing remarks expressed gratitude to all participants. He challenged AWAG to work hard to increase the number of qualified women Accountants in the country, underscoring the potential for women's involvement in driving progress and development.

The ceremony was an opportunity for the unveiling' of the AWAG cloth by Prof. Amfo and Dr. Sarah Dorgbadzi Ossei, CEO of Lododo Art Foundation.

The Association of Women Accountants, Ghana (AWAG), is an association of Chartered Female Accountants with membership from recognized accounting bodies in Ghana, including Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Certified Public Accountants (CPA). AWAG, founded in 1994, aims to attract more females to the Accountancy profession and promote the professional growth of its members. Currently led by Mrs. Patience Mawushie Dzikunoo, AWAG collaborates with other women's organizations to advocate for women and family issues in Ghana and beyond.

Gracing the occasion were Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo Danquah, Executive Director, Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), past President of ICAG and AWAG, Madam Angela Peasah; past and current executives of AWAG and members of the Association.

University officials who attended the launch with the Vice-Chancellor were, Mrs. Bernice Agudu, Director of Finance and Dr. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs.
