UG Registrar and Tallin University Strategy Manager Hold Meeting to Discuss Partnerships

Mr. Mikk Kasesalk, the Strategy Manager at Tallinn University, Estonia, has paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, the Registrar of the University of Ghana. The purpose of the meeting was to engage in discussions regarding the systems and structures of both universities, fostering potential collaboration and strengthening the ties between the institutions.

In brief remarks, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah, gave an overview of the decentralised nature of the UG governance system and how the Colleges operate. She noted that this has lessened the administrative load that the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar would have had to bear.

Mrs. Agyei-Mensah intimated that the collegiate system of governance was initiated in 2014 and reviewed in the 2019/2020 academic year. She assured that the major recommendations that came up as a result of the review have been considered and will be implemented in due course.

She also revealed that since the current Strategic Plan with a 10-year lifespan will end this year, Management set up a committee to draw up a new strategy which will fill the gaps in the previous document, by addressing the University’s key focus areas, such as digitalisation and technology.

One of the key challenges the Registrar noted was insufficient housing for students which she quickly added was being rectified by Management.

Laying out the structure of Tallinn University, Strategy Manager, Mr. Mikk Kasesalk mentioned that after a restructuring process, the University was reduced to six (6) institutes and one (1) Regional College.

On funding, he noted that 60% of his University’s funding is from investors whilst 40% comes from the State.

In an exclusive interview with the Public Affairs Media Desk, Mr. Mikk Kasesalk expressed his excitement about the meeting. He looked forward to the collaborative projects.
