UG Reconstitutes Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee to Strengthen Accountability and Prevention Efforts

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has charged members of the newly reconstituted Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee to uphold integrity, fairness, confidentiality and professionalism in carrying out their mandate.

At a brief inauguration ceremony, she emphasised that sexual harassment and misconduct have no place in the University and urged the Committee to ensure that complaints are handled promptly, fairly and in accordance with due process.

Prof. Amfo also encouraged members to prioritise education, awareness creation and prevention measures as part of efforts to promote a safe and inclusive environment for all.

The reconstituted committee is chaired by Prof. Awo Mana Asiedu and includes representatives from academic units, staff associations, student bodies and administrative departments of the University.

Members are Prof. Deborah Atobrah, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy (CEGENSA); Prof. Joanna Salifu Yendork, Director of the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA); Prof. Annabella Osei-Tutu, Department of Psychology; Dr. Ernestina Korleki Tetteh, Centre for Social Policy Studies (CSPS); Dr. Aurelia Ayisi, School of Information and Communication Studies; Prof. John Ganle, School of Public Health; Ms. Phoebe Dorothy Ayitey, UG School of Law; Mr. Vitus Ngaanuma, UG School of Law; Rev. Fr. Dr. Raymond Joseph Otwey-Buabeng, Careers and Counselling Directorate (CCD); Dr. Vitus Apalangya, UTAG representative; Mrs. Yvonne Lartey, GAUA representative; Mr. Bernard Kwame Segbedzi, TEWU representative; Ms. Helena Efua Impraim, GRASAG representative and Ms. Hillary Philipa Nyarko, SRC representative.

Ms. Empi Baryeh and Mrs. Elfreda Bansah will serve as Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

The Committee will oversee the implementation of the University’s revised Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy and work to promote accountability, awareness and prevention across the University community.
