UG receives 2,000 additional laptops under One Million Coders Programme to boost AI education

The University has received an additional 2,000 brand-new laptops from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations under the One Million Coders Programme, bringing the total number of laptops donated to the University to 2,500.

Receiving the laptops on behalf of the University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo described the donation as a major boost to the University's digital transformation agenda. 

She announced that four certifications under the One Million Coders Programme, Prompt Engineering Essentials, AI Essentials, AI Professional and Digital Literacy, will be integrated into the University of Ghana Required Courses for first-year students beginning next semester.

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, commended the University for embedding the programme into its curriculum, noting that "digital skills and AI literacy are becoming as fundamental as reading and writing." 

He encouraged students to use the laptops to create solutions, build businesses and contribute to national development.

The partnership reinforces the shared commitment of Government and the University of Ghana to equipping students with the digital and AI competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world.
