The University of Ghana (UG) will open the 77th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC) from January 5–8, 2026, bringing together policymakers, academics, industry leaders and development partners to deliberate on Ghana’s development priorities and pathways toward sustainability.
Organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) under the College of Education, the Conference will be held on the theme “Building the Ghana We Want, Together for Sustainable Development.” The platform will provide space for critical reflection on national issues, evidence-based policy dialogue and the generation of practical solutions to support inclusive and sustainable growth.
The Opening Ceremony, scheduled for January 6, is expected to be addressed by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, as Keynote Speaker.
Also expected at the opening event are the Chair of the University Council, Madam Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, and the Board Chairman of MTN Ghana, Mr. Ishmael Yamson, among other distinguished guests.
Over the four-day period, participants will engage in plenary sessions, public lectures and thematic discussions focusing on governance, economic transformation, social development and environmental sustainability. The outcomes of the Conference are expected to inform policy decisions and contribute to national discourse on development.
The Annual New Year School and Conference remains one of the University of Ghana’s longest-running and most influential public engagement platforms, reinforcing the University’s commitment to national development through research, teaching and public service.
