UG Excels at SwishFest and Pan African Debate Championship

The University of Ghana showcased remarkable prowess on both the athletic and intellectual fronts, garnering accolades at the SwishFest basketball invitational tournament at the UG Basketball Court and the Pan African University Debate Championship (PAUDC) at the Université de Lome at Togo.

After a long spell of dormancy (from 2015 to 2022) in the basketball circles, the University of Ghana basketball team is beginning to rise again strongly. The University's sporting dexterity was on full display at Swishfest, a premier basketball invitational tournament held at the University of Ghana Basketball Court from December 9 to 10, 2023.

Organised by DC Dynamics and Prolific Journey, SwishFest brought together six top-tier basketball teams from Accra in a heated competition for supremacy. The University of Ghana's basketball team emerged victorious, clinching the championship and a coveted cash prize of GH¢ 10,000.

On another note, the University of Ghana debate team has returned from PAUDC, hosted at the Université de Lomé in Togo from December 3rd to 11th, 2023. At the close of the competition, Master Elisha Owusu Akyaw won the best judge of the event, earning well-deserved recognition for his astute adjudication. Additionally, Master Ezekiel Nii Tettey Addy won the 2nd best judge, further solidifying the University's presence at the debate competition.

Director of Sports at the University, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, commenting on the double wins, stated, “UG Sports Directorate is on a journey of not looking back. The silent investments are bearing fruits.”

This dual triumph underscores the diverse talents within the University of Ghana's student body and also highlights the University’s commitment to promoting excellence across various disciplines.

Management extends warm and hearty congratulations to the participating students and the Sports Directorate for championing the cause that led to the double laurels.
