UG and GNPC Strengthen Collaboration on Research, Skills Training and Student Development

The University of Ghana and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in research, skills training and capacity building to benefit students and industry.

This was during a high-level engagement where Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo formally congratulated the Acting Chief Executive of GNPC, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah on his recent appointment, and highlighted the importance of impactful partnerships in advancing the University’s strategic vision for the period 2024-2029.

Discussions focused on GNPC-sponsored scholarships, expanding student training and internship opportunities, sustaining the GNPC Professorial Research Chair and enhancing human resource development through co-designed skills upgrade programmes for GNPC staff members.

Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah assured UG of GNPC’s continued support despite budget constraints and laid emphasis on the Corporation’s commitment to leveraging UG’s expertise in research and strategic planning.

Key UG officials, including the Provost of CBAS, Prof. Sandow Mark Yidana and Dean of UGBS, Prof. Justice Bawole, acknowledged GNPC’s contributions and appealed for further support for infrastructure development and research funding. The meeting concluded with a shared vision for deeper collaboration, increased opportunities for students as well as plans to leverage the expertise of the staff of GNPC in the lecture halls.

Also present at the meeting were the Director of the Institutional Advancement Directorate, Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah and the Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, as well as Mr. Victor Sunu-Attah (Advisor to the CEO, GNPC), Mr. Eric Pwadura (Manager, Corporate Affairs at GNPC) and Mr. Albert Longdon-Nyewan (Manager, Engineering, GNPC).
