UG Alumnus Appointed Special Prosecutor

Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, an alumnus and lecturer of the University of Ghana has been appointed by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Special Prosecutor. This follows his vetting by the Appointments Committee and subsequent approval by Parliament.

Mr. Kissi Agyebeng obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Ghana in May 2001. He graduated with a first class honors; receiving the Bentsi-Enchill Award for Best Graduating Law student. He proceeded with a Professional Law Course at the Ghana School of Law from 2001 to 2003, was admitted to the Ghana Bar in 2003 and has since been a member of the Ghana Bar Association.

Additionally, Mr. Agyebeng pursued a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees from Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, Canada and Cornell Law School, New York in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

Since 2006, Mr. Agyebeng has taught a number of courses including Criminal Law, International Humanitarian law, International Law, Company Law, Commercial Law and Legal Research and Writing at the University of Ghana School of Law.

Mr. Kissi Agyebeng has a number of publications to his credit, and has a wide range of expertise in consulting for public sector institutions.

As Special Prosecutor, he is, under the Office of Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959), responsible for investigating and prosecuting alleged corruption or suspected corruption and corruption related offenses, recovering the proceeds and taking steps to prevent corruption.
