In a significant act of giving back to their alma mater, the 1993 Alumni group of the University of Ghana has donated essential medical items and equipment to the University Hospital as part of 30th-anniversary celebrations of the cohort.

The donation, which exemplifies the strong bond between the University and its Alumni, is expected to make a meaningful impact on maternal healthcare services provided by the University Hospital.

The donated items include a gynecological examination bed, LED Examination Bed lights, 2 sphygmomanometers, a stethoscope, stool for perineal suturing, dressing, and medication trolley, a fetal doppler, an emergency bedside cabinet, and a wheelchair.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, who received the items on behalf of the University Hospital, expressed her excitement and gratitude on behalf of the hospital for the donation.

She praised the 1993 alumni group for their continued dedication to their alma mater, highlighting their ongoing 30th-anniversary celebrations, which included the thoughtful donation to the University Hospital. She emphasized the importance of creating a sense of ownership and innovation among students, faculty, staff, and alumni in supporting the university's growth.

“I can see that there is willingness and excitement among the alumni groups to help, and this is in line with my 6th key strategic objective, which is to create a sense of ownership among our students, faculty, staff, and alumni so that on their own they would create and be innovative in supporting the growth of the university”, she highlighted.

Prof. Amfo also called for the institutionalisation of “a give-back agenda” among different year groups, to create organised opportunities for cherished alumni to contribute to the University's development.

Dr. Timothy Senunyeme, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the University Hospital, also expressed his delight at the timely donation. He mentioned that the 1993 year group responded to an offer of support after a needs assessment, which led to the generous donation.

Dr. Senunyeme assured the Vice-Chancellor and the 1993 year group that the medical items and equipment would be put to the best use to enhance maternal health care at the hospital.

Speaking on behalf of the 1993 year Alumni group, Prof. Robert Osei, the President of the group and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, extended his appreciation to the University management for welcoming them back. He highlighted the group's eagerness to collaborate with the University and expressed their willingness to assist through donations and other means of support.

Present at the occasion were Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Registrar; Prof. Godwin Abeka-Nkrumah, Chairman of the University Hospital Management Committee; Ms. Pascaline Songsore; Senior Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate; members of the UG Alumni Council; executives and members of the UG 1993 Alumni, and other hospital staff members.
