Two University of Ghana students, Julia Duncan and Nana Akua Asantewaa, have clinched top honours in a painting competition for African Youth under the auspices of the Confucius Institute.
The painting competition, which started in March on the theme "My Dream," concluded in August, 2023 with the announcement of the winners.
Organised by the Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the China Manned Space Engineering Office, the competition aimed to actively support the interest of young Africans in outer space and their desire to "fly to space."
The competition was also targeted at getting students interested and encouraging them to participate in Confucius Institute’s competitions.
As part of the competition, participants, notably Ghanaian teenagers, were tasked to put their dreams into drawings and have them submitted with a title and a brief introduction of the work.
The review panel, which assessed the work, adjudged Julia Duncan and Nana Akua Asantewaa as prize winners.
For her exceptional artistic expression, Julia Duncan, was presented a trophy and a cash prize of GH¢3,800.00, while Nana Akua Asantewaa received a certificate of excellence and a cash prize of GH¢2000.00.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG), responsible for organising the illustrious competition, congratulated the winners on their achievements.
Furthermore, the Institute urged students of the University to participate in the upcoming programmes and competitions organised by the Institute.
Following the success of the "My Dream" painting competition for African Youth, the Confucious Institute has announced a Call for Entries for the 2023 Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners across the Globe dubbed the “Calligraphy and Painting Challenge.”
This global art event is open to Chinese language enthusiasts worldwide and geared towards allowing participants to demonstrate their unique perspectives and emotional expressions of the world through art.
Under the theme “Bridging cultures with calligraphy and painting,” the challenge is open until October 27, 2023.
The latest competition offers individuals the opportunity not only to showcase their talents and creativity, but also to vie for substantial rewards, including a grand prize of a place in the 2024 Chinese Bridge Summer Camp in China and a round-trip ticket to China to be provided by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation).
