Senior Female Faculty and Administrators ‘Let Their Hair Down’ At Networking Breakfast Session

Senior Female Faculty and Administrators have been hosted to a networking breakfast session in an event dubbed “Breakfast with the VC and the Registrar”.

The event, which was held in collaboration with the University’s Centre for Gender Studies and Advocacy (CEGENSA), at the serene locale of Aburi, was full of excitement, laughter, dancing, and photography.

It can be recalled that last year, as part of mentoring initiatives by CEGENSA, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, engaged in a tête-à-tête over breakfast with early and mid-career female faculty members.

This year’s event provided a platform and facilitated candid conversations with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and Registrar Mrs. Agyei-Mensah on varied issues and topics of concern.

The Director of CEGENSA, Dr. Deborah Atobrah, at the beginning of the session, welcomed the attendees and expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for their valuable presence.

She acknowledged their willingness to share the wisdom accumulated through the years.

Ahead of the interactive session, several participants joined the Vice-Chancellor on a refreshing health walk from the Ayi Mensah Toll Booth to the Hephzibah Christian Centre, followed by aerobics, a spirited dance competition, and an engaging photoshoot.

The Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar took centre stage during the interactive session, sharing glimpses of their personal and professional lives with the attendees.

Among other things, women's health, achieving work-family balance, and nurturing mentor-mentee relationships were passionately discussed.

Prof. Charlotte Wrigley-Asante, Prof. Margaret Amankwah-Poku, and Prof. Charity Akotia, were part of participants who shared their keenness on destressing, socializing, and forging new networks.

In her reflective remarks after the event, Prof. Amfo highlighted the intimate nature of this year's edition. She expressed hope that the participants would draw inspiration to embrace more leadership roles.

Mrs. Agyei-Mensah underscored the significance of the event, describing it as "a pleasant and productive way to spend a Saturday." She emphasized its role in fostering dialogue, confronting challenges, and seeking inward solutions.

The children accompanying their mothers were not left of the fun activities of the day. They were immersed in creative activities such as paper crafting, painting, puzzles, homemade playdough crafting, and simple science experiments.

Dr. Abena Kyere, Research Fellow at CEGENSA, conveyed the vote of thanks at the end of the event.
