Republic Bank Group Chair and Senior Executives Visit UG

Republic Bank Ghana has reaffirmed its strong partnership with the University of Ghana during a courtesy call by a high-powered delegation from the bank led by the Group Chair, Yashmid Karamath.

Welcoming the delegation, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon Awandare, described Republic Bank as one of the University’s key strategic partners in the banking sector, noting that the relationship extends beyond banking services to include collaborative initiatives and support for infrastructure development.

“We are generally happy with our partnership and we look forward to new initiatives. There are many opportunities for us to continue working together, particularly in supporting students and enhancing the welfare of the University community,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the Bank, the Group Vice-President,  Richard Sammy, explained that the visit formed part of a broader tour of the bank’s subsidiaries across its 16 countries of operation. He noted that Ghana remains an important part of the bank’s international operations and praised the long-standing relationship with the University of Ghana. 

He also commended the resilience of Ghana’s economy and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting its customers and institutional partners.

Speaking on ongoing projects at UG, the Dean of the University of Ghana  Business School (UGBS), Prof. Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah, provided updates on the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Lecture Hall Phase II project, which the Republic Bank is sponsoring. He indicated that work on the project is about 99 percent complete, with procurement of furniture as part of the final activities to be carried out. He intimated that the building is expected to be commissioned by the end of June, 2026.

Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah further disclosed that Republic Bank had again agreed to construct the road around the UGBS Graduate School Block as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

Prof. Vera Fiador, Head of the Department of Finance, UGBS, who also serves on the Bank’s Board, commended Republic Bank for its collaborative approach in the execution of the project. She noted that the relationship between the University and the bank had remained positive throughout the process and expressed optimism about future engagements.
