Republic Bank Ghana Adds More Laptops to Earlier Donation Made to the 1S1L Initiative

In fulfillment of the promise to round up the total number of laptops donated by various organisations and individuals to 500, Republic Bank Ghana (PLC) has added five more laptops to their initial donation of 20.

The decision to donate the five more laptops emerged from discussions between Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo and the Managing Director of Republic Bank, Mr. Benjamin Dzoboku, during their earlier donation in December of 2023, in support of the Vice-Chancellor’s, One Student, One Laptop (1S1L) Initiative.

Launched in April 2022, the initiative seeks, among other things, to provide free laptops to needy students. This effort is aimed at helping students seamlessly adapt to the evolving landscape of education delivery and learning, ensuring access to the essential resources required for effective teaching, learning and research.

The initiative further enhances the technological skills of students and makes them digitally savvy for the evolving job market.

The distribution process has been facilitated by the Student Financial Aid Office. So far, 384 laptops have been distributed to students from the various academic units.

During a brief ceremony to present the additional five laptops, Republic Bank's Communications Manager, Ms. Leila Pentsil, introduced her colleagues and reaffirmed the purpose of their visit, which was to fulfill the promise made by their Managing Director during their previous donation of twenty laptops.

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, while receiving the laptops, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the continued support from Republic Bank. She highlighted the Bank's substantial role as one of the major pillars supporting the “One Student, One Laptop” initiative since its inception.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the positive impact on student education and expressed hope for further collaborations in the future.

Present at the donation, which took place at the office of the Vice-Chancellor, were Mr. Foster Ahiadu, Manager, Legon Branch; Mr. Jacob Agyarkoh, Relationship Manager Legon Branch and Mr. Joshua Gyapong, a Marketing Representative of the Bank.
