Republic Bank Donates 20 Laptops in Support of VC’s 1 Student, 1 Laptop Initiative

The Managing Director of Republic Bank Ghana (PLC), Mr. Benjamin Dzoboku, led a delegation from the bank to donate 20 laptops in support of the One Student One Laptop Initiative by the Vice Chancellor. This aligns with the bank's SDG commitment to quality education within its CSR initiative, ‘Power to Make a Difference.’

During the presentation, Mr. Joseph L. Ashong, General Manager of Republic Bank Ghana, highlighted the bank's dedication to advancing education and nurturing better human resources for the current and future generations.

The Managing Director, Mr. Benyamin Dzoboku, stressed the significant benefits students will derive from the laptops, underlining the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility and its "Power to Make a Difference" initiative aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.

In her acceptance remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo noted Republic Bank's consistent support for the University's mission and vision. Echoing the bank’s commitment to comprehensive support, Prof. Amfo highlighted the role the laptops will play in enhancing students' technological skills and academic studies.

She further expressed appreciation to the bank and acknowledged the enduring collaboration between Republic Bank and the University of Ghana.

On his part, SRC President Mr. Frank Tsikata expressed gratitude for the donation on behalf of the student body, recognising its positive impact on brilliant and needy students. He commended the Vice-Chancellor for her impactful initiative while acknowledging Republic Bank's commitment to corporate responsibility.

Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Registrar in closing remarks, expressed the University’s gratitude to the bank for supporting the University in ensuring that students are technologically adept and well prepared for the world of work.

Mr. Foster Ahiadu (Branch Manager, Republic Bank, Legon Branch), Leila Pentsil (Manager, Communications) and Mr. Jacob Obeng Agyarko (Relationship Officer, Republic Bank, Legon Branch) were present at the brief ceremony.

Also in attendance from the University of Ghana, were Prof. Gordon Awandare, Pro VC (ASA); Prof. Rosina Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs; Mr. Francis Boachie, Chief Information Technology Officer; Dr. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs and Mr. Claudius Angsongna, President-UG-GRASAG as well as some executives of SRC and GRASAG.
