Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann Elected Fellow of the Prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering

The Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), United Kingdom. She is one of only two Africa-based academics elected this year, joining 72 other distinguished engineers and innovators announced at the Academy’s Annual General Meeting on 23 September 2025.

Prof. Kaufmann’s election recognises her outstanding leadership in engineering education and research, as well as her significant contributions to national and international conversations on science, technology and innovation.

The Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship is one of the highest honours in the profession, awarded to individuals who have made an exceptional impact through pioneering innovation, advancing knowledge and applying engineering to improve lives. Fellows are drawn from academia, industry and government and provide expert advice on some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

In his remarks, RAEng President Sir John Lazar, CBE FREng, described the new Fellows as leaders who exemplify excellence in engineering and will play a vital role in advancing the Academy’s mission to “engineer better lives.”

Prof. Kaufmann will be formally admitted at a special ceremony in London on 18 November 2025, where she will sign the roll book of the Academy. Her election marks a personal milestone and highlights the University of Ghana’s growing recognition as a hub for global engineering excellence.

Her achievement adds to her long list of distinctions as an engineer, educator and trailblazer.
