mPharma, a pharmaceutical company, has presented a mobile COVID-19 testing equipment (Molecular Workstation) to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), one of the advanced research laboratories spearheading the fight against the novel coronavirus.
The molecular workstation which is estimated to cost in excess of US$30,000 is expected to enhance the capacity of NMIMR to test samples remotely, reducing waiting time to access results for informed decision and management.
Mr. Gregory Rockson, Chief Executive Officer of mPharma indicated that it became necessary to donate the portable molecular workstation to the Institute to enable its health workers to test while on location picking samples. “In addition to this equipment, we are also providing reagents that will enable Noguchi to test an initial thousand people using this device”, he added. Mr. Rockson assured that they will continue to support NMIMR to ensure that as many people who need to be tested in the country are tested.
Receiving the molecular workstation, Prof. Abraham Kwabena Anang, Director of the Institute, explained the importance of the equipment and how it will enhance the Institute’s testing capacity. According to Prof. Anang responding to public health emergencies like COVID-19 requires key principles; prevention, detection and course diagnosis. He added that the equipment which is unique can be lifted with ease to any part of the country to conduct testing.
