IT Directorate Hosts Capacity-Building Workshop to Boost Digital Content Skills for Staff

The Information Technology Directorate (ITD) is currently hosting a month-long comprehensive capacity-building training programme aimed at enhancing digital content creation skills among staff of the University.

Supported by the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), the initiative seeks to empower staff with essential digital competencies for multimedia development in both educational and administrative contexts.

The training covers key areas such as digital content creation, online course facilitation, artificial intelligence applications and multimedia production.

Welcoming participants, Chief Information Technology Officer and Director of the IT Directorate, Mr Francis Kwabena Boachie, underscored the importance of the project within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“Please take advantage of this. It is a skills development project based on the idea of building the competencies we need in the digital era,” he said. “The objectives go beyond skills acquisition, it is also about job creation and improving livelihoods.”

He disclosed that the workshop is one of several modules planned under the GSDF funding and expressed the hope that participants would not only learn but also transfer the knowledge acquired to their colleagues, expanding capacity across departments.

The funding from the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) for the workshop, is managed by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) under the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project (GJSP), which is supported by the World Bank.

As part of the funding initiative, the University of Ghana will also benefit from the establishment of a broadcast and teaching studio; acquisition of a mobile multimedia studio; setup of a multimedia room equipped for hybrid meetings;  advanced training for trainers in Educational Technologies (in collaboration with UGCS and GI-KACE) and the development of short, intensive EdTech programmes.

This training workshop aligns with the University’s 3rd Strategic Priority, ‘Commitment to our Faculty and Staff’, which seeks to create opportunities for professional growth, innovation and creativity in an environment of diversity and inclusion.

Participants shared that the training would equip them with practical skills and innovative tools that will enhance the quality of their work.
