The Gbewaa College of Education, witnessed a momentous occasion on August 11 and 12, 2023, as it welcomed its new Principal, Dr. Halidu Musah and celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of students who completed the four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme. The Provost of the College of Education, Professor Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe, graced the event with his presence.

In his address, Dr. Halidu Musah outlined his vision for the Gbewaa College of Education, which revolves around strengthening human resources, enhancing infrastructure, fostering capacity building, promoting environmental stewardship, nurturing students’ discipline, and achieving academic excellence. Notably, Dr. Musah highlighted the transition from a diploma to a degree-conferring institution, alluding to their aspirations of obtaining full tertiary status. He added that the College was still actively working to elevate staff qualifications to terminal degrees while providing essential training and guidance for research and publication. “The results are already evident, with an improvement in staff productivity in terms of research and publications” he said.

The Provost of the College of Education, University of Ghana (COE-UG), underscored the importance of research within the academic landscape. He unveiled plans to organise workshops and initiatives aimed at enhancing writing and publication skills for all six Colleges of Education under the COE-UG mentorship, including Gbewaa College of Education. Professor Codjoe reiterated that he has requested the Colleges of Education to establish College Research Committees that would collaborate closely with COE-UG Educational Research. Furthermore, he announced the COE-UG Educational Research initiative plans to establish surveillance sites for research across the country, with active participation from all the Colleges under their mentorship. These measures, once successfully executed, promise to significantly enhance research and publication capabilities among faculty members, ultimately advancing their careers.

The graduation ceremony also saw a profound and symbolic gesture, when the Provost of the College of Education, representing the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, joined hands with Gbewaa College of Education to extend a token of appreciation to the representative of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. This gesture not only marked a transitional moment but also underscored the importance of collaboration and continuity in the academic journey.

Professor Codjoe lauded Gbewaa College of Education for the successful induction and graduation ceremonies. He particularly commended the inclusion of rich cultural displays, which added vibrancy and enjoyment to the proceedings.
