Former UG Vice-Chancellor Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr Honoured as WACREN Launches New Leadership and Advocacy Award

Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana and eminent legal scholar, has been honoured with a prestigious continental award by the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN). At its 10th Annual Conference held in Dakar, Senegal, WACREN announced the launch of the Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr Leadership and Advocacy Award, with the inaugural edition presented to the celebrated academic himself.
The award recognises Prof. Sawyerr’s outstanding contributions to higher education policy, research leadership and the advancement of digital infrastructure supporting research and education across Africa. His decades-long work in shaping equitable and forward-looking academic systems continues to influence scholarly progress across the continent.
Prof. Sawyerr, also a Fellow and former President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, is widely acknowledged for his tireless advocacy for inclusive and transformative higher education. His leadership has been instrumental in building networks that bridge institutions and strengthen African research communities.
