Family Health University College Acknowledges University of Ghana’s Support in Securing Presidential Charter

The Management of Family Health University College recently met with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah-Amfo, to express their heartfelt gratitude for the vital role the University played in their journey toward receiving a Presidential Charter. This milestone officially established Family Health University College as an independent university in 2024.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of Family Health University College, Prof. Philip Odonkor, expressed deep appreciation to the University of Ghana for its invaluable support in nurturing the institution.

Reflecting on their growth, he stated, “On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Founders and the entire institution, we are very grateful to you. But for the way you nurtured us, we might still be struggling in the woods.” He emphasised that while they had made significant progress, the journey was ongoing, and the institution would continue to seek advice and support as needed.

Prof. Amfo congratulated Family Health University College on its growth, likening it to a child maturing into an adult. She assured them that UG would continue to offer guidance as needed.

 “We are in the same business, together. We grapple with similar issues and challenges. Yes, of course, you are in the private sector, and we are in the public sector, but some things cut across,” Prof. Amfo added. .

On her part, the Registrar of the University of Ghana, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah informed the meeting that some students who began their programmes during the affiliation period are still in the process of completing their studies and assured that the University would provide the necessary assistance during this transition.

Provost of the College of Health Sciences, UG, Prof. Alfred Yawson, pledged continued support from various academic units in the College, including the Nursing and Midwifery, Medical and Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences Schools, to help Family Health University College award degrees and support its students.

Director of Academic Affairs, UG, Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, commended Family Health University College for its diligence and professionalism, which made the transition easier. “As proud parents at Ghana's premier university, we are happy to be associated and also to be part of the success story of Ghana's premier private medical university,” she said.

Dean of the Medical School at Family Health University College, Dr. Sylvester Oppong, took pride in the institution’s growth, describing it as a flourishing university.
