Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong Donates 20 Laptops to Support VC's 1S1L Initiative

Renowned Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, has made a significant contribution to the Vice-Chancellor’s ‘One Student, One Laptop’ Initiative by donating 20 brand new laptops to the University of Ghana.

The donation was made at a brief presentation ceremony held at the University. Receiving the laptops, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Ofori Sarpong for his generosity and consistent support towards the University’s development agenda.

“Dr. Ofori Sarpong is not only a distinguished alumnus but also a strategic partner to the University of Ghana. His commitment to empowering students through digital access aligns strongly with our vision of creating a transformative student experience,” Professor Amfo remarked.

She further emphasised that the ‘One Student, One Laptop’ Initiative is central to improving access to digital learning tools, especially for students who may face challenges acquiring such essential academic resources.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Gordon Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), assured the donor that the laptops will be distributed to deserving student beneficiaries through a fair, transparent, and needs-based process.

In attendance were senior University officials as well as the Chair and members of the ‘One Student, One Laptop’ Implementation Committee, who commended Dr. Ofori Sarpong for his continuous support and dedication to student empowerment.

The ‘One Student, One Laptop’ Initiative forms part of the Vice-Chancellor’s broader vision of enhancing teaching, learning, and research through digital inclusion and innovation.
