Department of Sociology Hosts 9th GSAA Conference as Part of 75th Anniversary Celebrations

The Department of Sociology has hosted the 9th Ghana Sociological and Anthropological Association (GSAA) Conference as part of activities marking its 75th anniversary. The conference brought together academics, professionals and students in the social sciences to reflect on the discipline’s evolution and its relevance to national development.
Head of Department, Prof. Peace Mamle Tetteh, reiterated the importance of harnessing multidisciplinary collaboration and technology to sustain the relevance of sociology in addressing emerging societal challenges.
GSAA National Convener, Prof. William Boateng, acknowledged the lateral growth of the discipline but called for deeper academic leadership and stronger institutional structures.
In his keynote address, Prof. Steve Tonah emphasised the integration of sociology, anthropology, and social work, noting the shift toward converging methodologies in research and practice.
Representing the Provost, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Prof. Mavis Dako-Gyeke, commended the Department’s leadership in research on rural transformation, migration and postcolonial development.
The event reaffirmed the Department’s longstanding contribution to national development and its commitment to advancing impactful research for the future.
