Classroom Modernisation Committee Inspects Commissioned and Ongoing Projects

The Classroom Modernisation Implementation Committee, led by Prof. Gordon Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), has embarked on an inspection of the completed projects under the Vice-Chancellor's Classroom Modernisation Initiative.

The tour was a follow-up to the commissioning of the modernised facilities a few months ago.

According to Prof. Awandare, the Classroom Modernisation Initiative aims to provide a positive teaching and learning experience for both students and lecturers at the University of Ghana.

The team toured facilities at the Oracca Tetteh/Larway Building, the N-block, New N-block, and the Jones Quartey Building (JQB).

When the team arrived at the various destinations, all of the equipment were in good condition and in use, as lectures were in session. Lecturers and students had the opportunity to interact with the Pro Vice-Chancellor and other members of the delegation, and they expressed their excitement about the new development that promotes academic work.

Prof. Awandare assured that air conditioners will be installed as soon as possible and internet connection worked on as well.

Concerning security, Prof. Awandare stated that UG Security will be engaged to patrol the facilities at night, while Management ensures the installation of burglar-proof doors to prevent theft.

The team also called on Prof. Daniel Kwabena Twerefou, Director of the Quality Assurance Unit, in his office, which is situated in the Jones Quartey Building.

During a brief meeting, it was suggested that an audio-visual manual be placed in the lecture halls to assist lecturers in using the newly installed technology, to extend the life of the devices. It was further suggested that movable whiteboard markers be placed in the modernised classrooms for lecturers who have use for them.

The delegation that joined the Pro VC on the inspection exercise included Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement, Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah; Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, Director of Academic Affairs; Prof. Ernest Tweneboah-Koduah, Member of the Classroom Modernisation Initiatve; Mrs. Mavis Osafo Adu, Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate; Mr. Peter Abalansah, Dep. Director, PDMSD; Mr. Fredrick Yuorkuu, Head of Teaching and Examinations Unit; Mr. Mawusi K. Glozah, Senior Assistant Registrar, Pro VC (ASA)’s Office and Representatives of Clems High Business Solutions Limited.

Earlier in the month, the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (AQAU) collaborated with the Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) and the University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS) to organise a training programme on the use of the newly installed teaching equipment at the K. A. Busia, Oracca Tetteh, N-Block and New N-Block lecture halls.

The training was intended to equip faculty with the necessary practical knowledge to help them optimise the use of the new equipment that had been installed in these facilities as part of the Classroom Modernisation Project.
