Classroom Modernisation Committee Embarks on Routine Inspection of Modernised Classrooms on Campus

Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA) Prof. Gordon Awandare, recently led the Classroom Modernisation Committee, to assess progress of work at the Oracca-Tetteh/Larway building, Central Cafeteria, and the Staff Development and Learning Resource Centre. The academic facilities currently being used by staff and students are undergoing modernisation, with the installation of state-of-the-art IT equipment to enhance teaching and learning.

The project is one of the 3-pronged tech-driven initiatives by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, to achieve her vision of creating a culture that promotes research, teaching and learning, administrative processes and extension activities driven by technology and anchored in humanism.

During the tour, Mr. Robert Oracca-Tetteh, IT Consultant at Clems High Business Solutions Ltd., demonstrated how the equipment and other gadgets are used and explained their functions.

He further indicated that the team would continue to train Teaching Assistants to ensure optimal use of the facilities.

Projectors, interactive screens, and a smart podium are among the newly installed equipment in these facilities for effective teaching and learning.

The Management of the University of Ghana has put together a committee, under the Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) to spearhead the expansion and modernisation of classrooms to enhance the delivery of teaching and learning services offered by the University.

The proposed expansion and modernisation solution involves the construction, refurbishment, and installation of information technology (ICT) equipment and gadgets and an integration into the UG Learning Management System to allow for both synchronous and asynchronous virtual learning to take place as required.

It will also create an appropriate learning environment for face-to-face lectures and allow for off-site learning and examinations to manage the large student population. Equitable support will also be provided through this initiative to enable differently-abled students fully participate in teaching and learning activities.

Last year, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo commissioned the refurbished K.A Busia Classroom as part of the Classroom Modernisation Project.

Accompanying the Pro VC during the inspection were Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah, Director, Institutional Advancement; Mrs. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director, Public Affairs Directorate; Mr. Kofi Nti Director, PDMSD; Mr. Clement Aryee, CEO of Clems High Business Solutions Ltd, as well as other members of the committee.
