Mrs. Abena Osei Poku, a University of Ghana alumna and Chair of the College of Health Sciences Advisory Board has been appointed as the Managing Director and Regional Executive for the Anglophone West Africa (AWA) Region of Ecobank Group.
Mrs. Abena Osei Poku is an experienced Pan-African business leader with over 25 years of expertise in corporate and investigative banking, business banking, and risk management at the regional level.
Mrs. Osei Poku started her career as a private banker at First Atlantic Merchant Bank and then worked at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana as an Assistant Relationship Manager and Credit Manager for multinational corporations.
She worked for 10 years at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana before being appointed as Director for Global Corporates, Wholesale Bank.
She later became the Executive Director for Commercial Banking at Barclays Bank Ghana (now Absa Bank). Mrs. Osei Poku was appointed as the Co-Regional Head of Coverage for the Corporate and Investment Bank at Absa Bank Group in 2016. Later, she became the CEO and Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana until her recent appointment by Ecobank.
She holds an MBA from Manchester Business School, UK, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana.
Mrs. Osei Poku has experience in various industries at the board level including the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ghana.
