CBAS Marks DSRA Celebration with an Exhibition of Research Works and Products

To commemorate the 2023 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa, the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, in partnership with the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, organised an exhibition of various research works and products.

Nii Ashie Djane, Acting Regent of La Bawaleshie, his elders, government officials and residents were there to commemorate the occasion at the La Bawaleshie Presbyterian Basic School Park.

Participants were guided by Prof. Boateng Onwona-Agyeman, Provost of the College, to tour some exhibits from the various departments. Among the items on display were vaccines for dogs, UG yogurt, UG local rice, seedlings, a water pumping machine, a solar panel, and turkey berry paste, all manufactured and produced by staff as well as students from the College.

Prof. Boateng Onwona-Agyeman expressed gratitude to the Chief and elders for the opportunity given to the College to showcase goods that will benefit the community. He assured them that all items had undergone the right processes for commercial purposes. Prof. Boateng Onwona-Agyeman, therefore, encouraged all stakeholders to patronise the products.

The Acting Regent of La Bawaleshie, his elders, and members of the community welcomed the various teams from the College and applauded them for their efforts.

Hon. Sandra Owusu-Ahinkrah, MCE of the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, in her remarks which was delivered by Madam Miriam Okantey, Assistant Director in charge of Shiashie zone, indicated that it was an honour for the assembly to collaborate with the University of Ghana to commemorate the DSRA and made a commitment to open the Assembly’s doors to collaboration.

A panel discussion was also held to elaborate on the products and the application of science in today's world.

Prof. Onwona-Agyeman revealed in an exclusive interview with the Public Affairs Media Team that plans are being made to organise another exhibition before the end of the year. He expressed his desire to make it an annual occasion to be commemorated.

There was also free health screening for the community.
