Akuafo Hall Commissions Hotspot Comfort Zone

Akuafo Hall has commissioned a hotspot comfort zone, the first of its kind in any hall of residence on campus.

The facility includes modern seating areas, high-speed internet connectivity and improved washrooms, designed to support both academic and social engagement among students.

The outgoing Hall Master, Prof. Kwaku Oppong Asante, emphasised that the project aligns with the University’s broader strategic objective of delivering a transformative student experience. He called the project “an icing on the cake” to his four-and-a-half-year tenure and a lasting legacy for the Hall.

“There is no hall of residence on UG campus that has a dedicated comfort zone for its students,” he said, noting that 95 percent of the funds came from individual donations by stakeholders and alumni.

“So, we are aligning with the University's strategic priorities, making sure that students in the University of Ghana have an opportunity and a space where they can learn and become responsible members of society”, he underscored.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof Gordon Awandare, praised the innovative design and commended Akuafo Hall for initiating the project.

“When it comes to hotspot comfort zones in the halls of residence, Akuafo Hall is the first and this amplifies the work done at the Centre”, Prof. Awandare noted, congratulating the Hall Master on an excellent job done, using his networks to mobilise resources for the Hall.

The Pro VC urged the incoming management, led by Dr. George Kodie Frimpong, to sustain the high standards set and ensure proper upkeep of the facility.

The incoming Hall Master, Dr. George Kodie Frimpong, commended the outgoing leadership for their vision and impact, describing the project as a “legacy that will outlive individuals and enrich student life for years to come.” He pledged to maintain the facility and build upon the achievements of the current administration, in line with the University’s strategic goals.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Junior Common Room (JCR) President, Naa Ofenkuniyelor Odehe, thanked the distinguished guests for attending the ceremony and acknowledged the support of the donors to the project.

“As we commission this hotspot comfort zone, we are confident that it will serve as a hub for learning, collaboration and excellence,” she added.

This comfort zone, while supporting the first and fifth strategic priorities of the University,  transformative student experience and sustainable resource mobilisation and stewardship respectively, is expected to serve as a model for other halls.
