11-Member Team Inaugurated for Ghana-Korea Impact Project

Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Professor Gordon Awandare, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, has inaugurated an 11-member Ghana-Korea Impact Steering Committee and Project Management team.

The team is to oversee the construction of the GK-Impact Centre of Excellence for ICT Based Start-Ups and Asian Research.

The grant for the project has been approved by the Korean Government through KOICA and is valued at US$9million.

In his opening remarks, Professor Awandare emphasised the importance of the project, noting that it will help improve campus infrastructure and motivate more students to pursue careers in innovation and technology.

“As a University, anything that propels infrastructure brings excitement, because we have a huge infrastructure deficit. When you look at the number of students per unit space, it is evident that any effort to provide additional space for students is welcome by the University. In this case, it is even better because it is focused on ICT, innovation and enterprise development in terms of startups, so all the ingredients are there to help the University,” Professor Awandare said.

He, therefore, charged the Committee to be dedicated and live up to expectations in discharging their duties.

In his acceptance as the Co-Chair of the Committee, Provost of the College of Humanities, Professor Daniel Frimpong Ofori, pledged his unswerving support and sound leadership to achieve the goals of the project.

‘We know what our roles and responsibilities are; we are going to discharge our duties very well. We consider it an honor to serve on the Committee and we are going to do our best to make sure the project is delivered”. Professor Frimpong assured.
