Dr. Zakari Mumuni, 1st Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Appointed Chairperson of the Reconstituted College of Humanities Advisory Board
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has officially inaugurated a reconstituted Advisory Board for the College of Humanities, reaffirming the University’s commitment to strengthening academic relevance, industry engagement and strategic growth. Members of the Board will serve a two-term tenure, with each term spanning two years.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the new chairman, Dr. Zakari Mumuni, 1st Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, alongside other distinguished members, noting that their acceptance to serve reflects a strong commitment to advancing higher education in Ghana.
She emphasised that the Advisory Board plays a critical role as a bridge between academia and society, ensuring that teaching, research and programmes within the College remain aligned with evolving global trends and industry needs.

“The composition of this Board, with a majority drawn from outside the University, ensures that our academic enterprise remains connected to and informed by the world beyond our walls,” she stated.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the University’s 2024–2029 strategic plan, anchored on five key priorities: transformative student experience, impactful research, commitment to faculty and staff, engagement and partnerships and sustainable resource mobilisation and stewardship.
She underscored the importance of close collaboration with industry, noting that rapidly changing global dynamics make it impossible for universities to rely solely on internal curriculum development without external input.
As part of their mandate, board members were charged to provide candid and constructive advice, serve as ambassadors for the Humanities, leverage their networks to create opportunities for students and actively participate in shaping the College’s strategic direction.
“They must help us keep our focus on the student, ensuring that every policy and decision ultimately improves the experience and future of the young people entrusted to us,” she added.
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Chair, Dr. Zakari Mumuni, expressed gratitude to the University Council and Management for the confidence reposed in the Board.
“As an alumnus of this University, I consider this appointment both a privilege and a responsibility to contribute to the continued growth and strength of an institution that has shaped many of us,” he said.
He assured the University community of the Board’s commitment to providing sound strategic guidance and working collaboratively with college leadership to enhance academic excellence and institutional impact.
Dr. Mumuni further noted that universities must demonstrate greater relevance, innovation and responsiveness to societal needs, adding that the Advisory Board would serve as a strategic partner in achieving these goals.
