UG Safeguards LIPREC Lands with 1.7km Perimeter Wall

Awere-Kyere and Associates and Goldcreste IBNAV have officially handed over a newly constructed 1.7-kilometre perimeter wall to the University of Ghana. The wall encircles the Livestock and Poultry Research Centre (LIPREC) and nearby university lands at Borteyman and marks a significant milestone in the University’s efforts to safeguard its land and secure the future of its research and learning facilities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Leslie Awere-Kyere, Project Manager, explained that the project was conceived in response to risks that emerged after the construction of the motorway link road and adjoining infrastructure. He added that after extensive consultations and negotiations, an agreement was signed in June 2024, with part of the obligation being the construction of the 1.7-kilometre wall now completed.

She expressed appreciation to all key stakeholders for their role in bringing the project to fruition. She underscored the importance of inclusive governance, pointing out that the project was the result of discussions and negotiations at various committee levels, not unilateral decision-making. She concluded by reaffirming the University’s commitment to enhancing LIPREC’s visibility and research capacity.

Welcoming the development with excitement, Professor Eric Timpong-Jones, Head of LIPREC, noted, ‘‘With this wall, our land is secured, our peace of mind is restored, and we can focus on research and training rather than chasing encroachers,” he remarked.

The Ag. Director of PDMSD, Mr. Peter Abalansah and Deputy Director, Estate Management Division, PDMSD, Mr. Ernest Boakye, took turns to provide the background to the project, reiterating that the University followed all the required processes, including signing an agreement, before leasing the land.
