The University of Ghana hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position University Librarian, University Library Systems

POSITION:                     University Librarian, University Library Systems 

REPORTING TO:        Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs 

 

THE INSTITUTION: 

The University of Ghana was established in 1948 to provide higher education, undertake research, disseminate knowledge and to foster relationships with outside persons and bodies. The University of Ghana has a student population of over 70,000 and over 6,000 employees, made up of academic and senior administrative and professional employees, as well as other support staff.

DUTIES 

The University Library Systems shall be headed by a University Librarian who shall under the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs: 

 

  1. Be responsible for the management of all libraries and related information and communication materials and resources of the University in accordance with guidelines, directives and decisions of the Academic Board. 
  2. Implement or ensure the implementation of decisions of the Library Board approved by the Academic Board 
  3. Provide professional/administrative leadership for the University of Ghana Library Systems which comprises the Balme Library and its satellite libraries.  
  4. Perform any other functions that the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, may assign. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES 

  1. Must be of Professorial status or at the rank of Principal Librarian or equivalent or a person from industry qualified to be appointed as such in an academic/research institution; 
  2. Must have a higher/research degree in Librarianship/Information Studies and at least 15 years relevant post-qualification experience, backed by internationally acknowledged scholarship in Librarianship; 
  3. Must have wide practical experience in all aspects of University Library work; and, 
  4. Must be proficient in the use of ICT and its library applications. 

 

TENURE 

The University Librarian shall hold office for three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board and may be eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years. 

SALARY 

Attractive with fringe benefits including market premium, rent, security and responsibility allowance.

  2. An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae and copies of relevant academic and/or professional certificates. 
  3.
