Vacancy Announcement: Station Officer

The University of Ghana hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Station Officer, Radio Univers. 

POSITION:                     Station Officer 

REPORTING TO:          General Manager, Radio Univers 

 

THE INSTITUTION:

JOB ROLE 

The Station Officer will oversee the daily operations of the station and coordinate the activities of its sub-units and their heads. The Station Officer will ensure that the station’s output, across broadcast and digital channels, is purposeful, audiencecentred, and aligned with the university's mission. The Station Officer may deputise for the General Manager when necessary. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Station Officer shall, under the General Manager: 

  1. Supervise all unit heads and ensure the effective daily delivery of their responsibilities. 
  2. Lead the station's digital and social media presence through the development of platform-specific content strategies, monitoring performance analytics, and refining messaging to maximise audience engagement.
  3. Manage and strengthen the station's media relations and public communications, including press content, campus stakeholder engagement, and external visibility initiatives. 
  4. Synthesise audience feedback, engagement data, and performance metrics to continuously improve programming. 
  5. Ensure that logistical needs of the station are managed to ensure their ready supply and appropriate use. 
  6. Ensure that the station’s broadcasts and digital content are of high quality and serve the interests of the University and its stakeholders. 
  7. Assist the General Manager in keeping the station compliant with relevant national and university laws and regulations. 
  8. Ensure public safety measures are in place at the station and that station events comply with university regulations and meet audience needs. 
  9. Support advocacy and mission-driven communication initiatives, positioning the station as a trusted voice for civic awareness, transparency, and public education on campus. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES 

The applicant must: 

  1. Hold a master’s degree in communication, media or other relevant disciplines. Relevant professional certification is an added advantage. 
  2. Have a minimum of three years’ working experience in broadcast and digital media 
  3. Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiar with broadcast and digital production tools. 
  4. Be proficient and savvy in social and digital media — including platform analytics, content scheduling, audience targeting, and performance reporting. 
  5. Have good leadership skills and be a team player with a flexible and receptive attitude, and good collaboration skills 
  6. Be creative, highly organised, and able to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining quality standards.
