The University of Ghana hereby, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Deputy Director, Risk Management, Internal Audit Directorate, to take effect from 1st January 2026. 

POSITION:                   Deputy Director, Risk Management 

REPORTING TO:         Vice-Chancellor 

THE INSTITUTION:

THE POSITION 

While the Vice-Chancellor, as the Chief Executive Officer, is the overall University Chief Risk Officer, the Deputy Director, Risk Management, Internal Audit (DDRMIA) shall coordinate all risk management activities of the University. 

The DDRM-IA will develop and deploy the core enterprise risk management toolset including risk identification, assessment prioritization, mitigation, monitoring, reporting templates and communication tools. The DDRM-IA shall ensure compliance with the risk management requirements of the University’s financial regulations, International Public Sector Accounting Standards and other applicable regulatory requirements. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Deputy Director, Risk Management shall under the Vice-Chancellor be responsible for undertaking all the duties and responsibilities in the Risk Framework including the following: 

  1. Developing and deploying the core enterprise risk management toolsets including risk identification, assessment, prioritization, mitigation and monitoring; 
  2. Identifying and monitoring emergent risks and reporting on them; 
  3. Working with risk owners to complete periodic risk analysis and developing risk documentation and reports; 
  4. Assessing and implementing effective business continuity and disaster recovery measures across the university of Ghana; 
  5. Enhancing emergency response procedures; 
  6. Extending risk principles into the wider University Strategy; 
  7. Developing the data strategy required to build an accurate picture of operational risk; 
  8. Educating the university community on the University’s risk management strategy; 
  9. Training and communicating with university employees on risk management policies. 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

The successful candidate must possess: 

  1. A  Master's Degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, Auditing or Insurance.  
  2. Membership of a professional risk management body.  
  3. A minimum of 15 years’ progressive working experience in enterprise risk management.  
  4. Experience in working with an executive team. 
  5. strategic and entrepreneurial leadership skills. 
  6. Outstanding relationship building and collaborative skills.  
  7. Extensive experience  in risk management and compliance.  
  8. Persuasive and influential communication abilities with high oral and written communication skills. 

SALARY  

Attractive with fringe benefits including market premium, rent, security and responsibility allowance. 

TENURE 

The person appointed as Deputy Director Internal Audit (Risk Management)   must be able to hold office for a period of four years on terms and conditions approved by the University Council, before reaching the statutory retirement age of 60 years, and may be eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to four years.
