About the Department

The Department of History has an illustrious history dating back to 1948 as one of the original units of the Faculty of Arts of the University College of the Gold Coast (now University of Ghana). Currently, it is part of the School of Arts under the College of Humanities. This Department continues the legacy of Professor Albert Adu Boahen and his African-centred perspective. It provides opportunities for historical study with an Afrocentric lens in areas such as gender history, labour history, social history and social movements, economic history, migration history, postcolonial history, institutional history, peace and conflict studies, slavery and African diasporan studies.
