Prof. Festus Ebo Turkson: From Lecturer to Bank of Ghana Monetary Policy Committee Member
Academic Rise in the Department of Economics

Professor Festus Ebo Turkson has served the Department of Economics, University of Ghana since May 2000, rising through the ranks to become an Associate Professor. His expertise spans Development Economics, Macroeconomics and Finance, Monetary and Financial Economics, International Trade Policy, Industrial Policy, and Applied Microeconometrics.

Educational Background

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham, with PhD coursework completed at Harvard University. He obtained his MPhil in Economics and BA in Economics & Sociology from the University of Ghana.

Research, Teaching, and Policy Engagement

Prof. Turkson has taught advanced courses in International Economics, Econometrics, Macroeconomics, and Policy Analysis. He has over 50 publications across development economics, SME financing, industrial policy, and trade. His work extends to major global organizations, where he has consulted for the World Bank, UNECA, UNDP, DANIDA, AfDB, IDRC, and others.

Appointment to the Bank of Ghana Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)

In April 2022, the Bank of Ghana appointed him as an External Member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), the body responsible for national monetary policy formulation. His appointment was made under Section 27 (3) (E) of the Bank of Ghana Act (Act 612), as amended by Act 918. He brings over two decades of research, teaching, and policy expertise to the committee.
