International Conference Series 3| To build a “Chinese+”training model of compound talents with Ghanaian characteristics

On September 22, the first China-Ghana International Conference on Chinese Education, jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana and the School of Humanities of Zhejiang University of Technology, was successfully held. The main venues are set up in Accra, the capital of Ghana, and Hangzhou, China. Students and teachers from universities, Confucius Institutes, experts and scholars, business representatives and media from China, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, South Africa and other countries attended the online and offline meetings. Experts and scholars conducted in-depth discussions on issues related to "international Chinese education". Professor Li Chunyu of Beijing Normal University was invited to deliver a keynote speech entitled "Forward-looking thinking on the construction of 'Chinese +' compound talents Training Model".

Professor Li Chunyu introduced the origin of "Chinese +". At the 13th Confucius Institute Conference in 2018, Vice Premier Sun Chunlan of The State Council proposed the concept of "Chinese +", which for the first time officially advocated the integrated development of Chinese education and vocational education to solve the problem of Chinese talent shortage globally, especially in countries along the "Belt and Road" initiative. Today, as international Chinese education enters a new stage of transformation and development, how to cultivate "Chinese +" compound talents has become an important topic.

What abilities should "Chinese +" compound talents possess? Professor Li Chunyu believes that language ability, vocational ability and intercultural communication ability are required to meet the needs of learners' individual development as well as the needs of enterprises, society and the country. As an important cooperative partner of China in Africa and the second African country to establish diplomatic ties with China, Ghana has achieved remarkable results in cooperation with China in various fields. As Chinese companies expand their operations in Ghana, the demand for bilingual and multilingual talents is increasing. Therefore, the cultivation of "Chinese +" compound talents will effectively solve some problems faced by Chinese enterprises in Ghana and promote the development of local economy.

Professor Li Chunyu pointed out in his speech that after the practice and development in recent years, the "Chinese +" model of compound talents training has achieved fruitful results in many countries. This model also meets the realistic needs of Chinese talent training in Ghana. In the future talent training, Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana can fully absorb the existing experience, combine with the local language and cultural characteristics and actual needs of Ghana, design the curriculum system, compile localized textbooks, improve the education evaluation mechanism, and build a compound Chinese talent training model with Ghanaian characteristics. After studying and evaluating the "Chinese +" program of Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, Professor Li gave specific and instructive suggestions.
