REPORT ON THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA CAREER DAY 2025
The University of Ghana Career Day, themed “Exploring Careers of Today: The Role of Artificial Intelligence,” commenced with an Academia/Industry Forum on 11th June 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., students, participants, company representatives, and panelists arrived at the Cedi Conference Centre, the venue for the event.
The Cedi Conference Centre Auditorium has a seating capacity of 800. By the end of the event, approximately 1,000 students had participated, with many gathered at the adjoining fairgrounds.
The event followed the outlined program, with Miss Christine Bakorkor and Mr. Ignicious Abiah serving as MCs. The Director of the Careers and Counselling Directorate, Rev. Dr. Mrs. Bridget Ben-Naimah, gave opening remarks, highlighting the significance of the theme. She emphasized that AI has demonstrated the ability to offer agile and scalable solutions in the face of modern challenges. She also posed the critical question of how prepared young people are for such developments and called on stakeholders, including government officials, to engage in meaningful dialogue to support youth readiness. Rev. Dr. Mrs. Ben-Naimah also outlined the Directorate's ongoing efforts to ensure the academic and career well-being of students through counseling and support programs.
Representatives from sponsoring companies shared brief remarks, focusing on the importance of being dynamic, intentional, purpose-driven, and skilled in today's job market. Moderator Mr. Caleb Kudah energized the audience and introduced the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Lydia Anowa Danquah (Director of Academic Affairs), who represented the Registrar. Mrs. Danquah recalled previous Career Day events and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to shaping students for the world of work. Speaking on the 2025 theme, she described AI as a transformative force creating new opportunities for innovation. She concluded by stressing the irreplaceable value of human skills, particularly critical thinking, and their continued relevance in the workplace.
Mr. Kudah also acknowledged the inclusive nature of the University community, commending the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy for their participation in the event. He then introduced the panelists: Mr. Mark Atta Mensah (Assistant Lecturer, Department of Computer Science), Mr. Richard Sena Quashie (General Manager, Digital, Media General), Mr. Kwamena Amo-Dadey (Senior Member, Training Department, Amalitech), and Mr. Jeffery Adu-Yeboah (UGSRC Vice-President). He also questioned the absence of a female panelist, highlighting the need for gender balance in such forums.
During the panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Kudah, the panelists explored the theme in depth, emphasizing AI’s relevance across sectors such as healthcare, finance, and the creative arts. They underscored the need for AI literacy and ethical use while reiterating that core human skills remain essential.
The Career Fair began at approximately 1:00 p.m., creating space for networking, information sharing, and recruitment. Participating companies included Media General, Stanbic Bank, TotalEnergies, Huawei, Procus Ghana Limited, ALX, Bel Beverages, Nestlé, Unifa Brothers, KPMG, Wayex, Amalitech, SEO Africa, Telecel, IX Joyea Steel, Zonda Tec, Sunda International, DOSH, ISACA, Bunge Loders Croklaan, Turntabl, Canada Immigration and Beyond, and Laruisha Customized Furniture.
In conclusion, the 2025 University of Ghana Career Day was a remarkable success, bringing together academia, industry, and students in a meaningful exchange of ideas, opportunities, and insights. The event theme, “Exploring Careers of Today: The Role of Artificial Intelligence,” was timely and thought-provoking, sparking vital conversations around the future of work and the relevance of both technological and human skills. The active participation of students across various levels, the presence of esteemed panelists and guests, and the collaboration with leading companies and organizations all contributed to an impactful and engaging experience. As we reflect on the outcomes, it is evident that initiatives like Career Day continue to play a critical role in preparing students for an evolving job market.
