MSc Bioinformatics

Master of Science — one year. Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology.

Overview

The MSc Bioinformatics programme is designed to equip postgraduate students with advanced knowledge, practical skills, and research competencies in bioinformatics to address biological and biomedical research needs in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa. The programme provides students with a strong foundation in bioinformatics, biology, data science, mathematics, statistics, and computing, while developing their ability to apply computational tools and techniques to solve biological and biomedical problems. Students will acquire skills in programming, biological data mining and analysis, computational modelling, genomics, and the development and evaluation of bioinformatics tools, algorithms, and analytical pipelines.

The programme also develops students' capacity to conduct basic and applied research and to apply bioinformatics approaches to areas such as disease diagnostics, drug discovery and design, and vaccine development. Upon completion, graduates will be able to critically analyze and interpret complex biological data, solve computational and biomedical research problems, and effectively communicate scientific findings through written and oral presentations.
