Brief History
Since its founding in 1962, the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Ghana has evolved significantly, adapting its academic and research focus to meet global scientific trends.
It supports the University's goal of becoming a leader in Life Sciences by driving high-impact research and training through the Faculty of Science (ug.edu.gh).
The department's core areas (Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology) explore life at the molecular and cellular levels, providing critical insights into how biological systems function.
With strong links to Biosciences and Physical Sciences, Biochemistry bridges disciplines like Genetics, Immunology, Pharmacology, and Engineering, making it central to biotechnology and biomedical innovation.

Our mission is to explore the biological world through cutting-edge research, quality teaching, and community service. We empower students with scientific thinking and practical skills to address today's global health, environment, and technology challenges.

Our vision is to become a global hub for life sciences, recognized for innovation and excellence. We aim to build a vibrant academic space where science thrives, society benefits, and future scientists are inspired to lead.
