Theresa Manful Gwira (PhD)
Professor Theresa Manful Gwira holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Her research centres on parasitic protozoa—particularly African trypanosomes and Leishmania—focusing on their molecular biology, genotyping, and interaction with host systems. She has collaborated with the Ghana Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Control Unit to assess and address trypanosome prevalence in both animals and tsetse vectors.
Beyond the lab, Prof. Gwira is passionate about teaching and mentorship. She lectures in subjects ranging from Cell Biology to Research Methodology and has a track record of nurturing young researchers. Her work has earned local and international acclaim, positioning her as a pillar in Ghana’s biomedical research landscape.
